Siamese cats, well cats in general enjoy a good brushing but Siamese cats and kittens basically maintain themselves. Frequent petting keeps loose hair to a minimum. The best home for a Siamese is anything, as long as it involves lots of contact with people.

The Siamese Cat’s Personality is intelligent, highly social, and demand to be part of your daily activities. Meezer’s as they are commonly referred to are very vocal. Enjoy interaction with children, adults and dogs. Although busy and playful, they enjoy a good cuddle.

The key factors and characteristics to the Siamese cat’s appearance is a long, tubular body with, fine-boned and long legs and a whippy tail that is also long.

Most commonly the Siamese breed have a wedge-shaped head with large, flared ears. The rounder “apple” head with smaller ears and the “Traditional” variety has more-robust body.

Their Coat is short and close-lying; “Traditional” cats generally have thicker coats. Sapphire-blue eyes set at a slant.

The main body has colors that range from glacial white to pale fawn. Seal, blue, chocolate and lilac are the four point colors accepted by purists. Red, cream, tortie and lynx (tabby) points are created by outcrossing to other breeds; some associations classify these cats as the Colorpoint breed.

Most people would recognize a seal point Siamese cat if they saw one, although they might not know that it was a seal point.

A seal point is the archetypal Siamese, a cat with dark, seal-brown points (points are the ears, facial mask, nose, paws and tail on a cat) that shot to fame in films such as The Incredible Journey, That Darn Cat!, and Bell, Book and Candle.

But do you know how many other colors the Siamese cat is found in? Or, that whether a particular color is classified as ‘Siamese’ or not may depend on which country the cat is from?

The four original Siamese colors are seal point, blue point, chocolate point and lilac point which mean, as their names suggest, that these cats have points of seal-brown, slate-blue-gray, milk chocolate, or pale lilac.

These colors are the four ‘official’ Siamese colors recognized by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in the United States. Any other, different colors found in cats with a Siamese coat pattern are called ‘Colorpoint Shorthair’ cats by the CFA – Colorpoint Shorthair being, in effect, classified as a separate and distinct breed to the Siamese breed.

However, over in the UK and other European countries, there are additional colors that are also recognized as being officially Siamese.

These are the red, apricot, cream, cinnamon, caramel and fawn point Siamese – newer additions to the four original colors. Ten colors in all. So far, so good!

Where Siamese coloring becomes complicated is that there are also striped, or tabby (known as lynx in the USA) and mottled, or tortoiseshell (tortie) versions of the colors above, too. And for good measure – and added complication – tortie-tabby (a mix of striped and mottled) as well.

So how many colors are there in total?

Well, as noted above, it does rather depend on where in world you are, but… the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), the most well-known breed registry in the United Kingdom, recognizes no less than 32 Siamese colors in all!

Origins and History of the Siamese Cats

The Siamese is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cats known to man, originating from Asia. Its oriental heritage is very interesting, and the name ‘siamese’ comes from Siam, which is now known as Thailand. According to some legends, the Siamese was once considered sacred, and kept in temples by priests, and people of extreme importance.

Siamese Appearance and Personality

The Siamese breed can easily be identified by their long slender appearance and the point markings of the body. Point simply means dark colored extremities (tail, ears, etc.) and cream or light colored body. There are many color patterns but the most common are chocolate, blue, and lilac points. The Siamese cat is medium in size and you can expect adult males to reach 10-15 pounds in weight as an average, and females to grow as large as 10 pounds.

Independent and demanding are two words that come to mind when describing the character of the breed. Siamese cats are very vocal animals and have a unique voice that is definitely one of a kind. They are very intelligent cats and graceful with their movements. They demand attention and want to be the center of attention, but also require to be left alone at certain times. Siamese cats generally are good with children although it is recommended to get a kitten and get them socialized at an early age if possible.

There are actually some descendants of the Siamese cat breed including: Balinese, Javanese, Oriental Longhair, Oriental Shorthair, Colorpoint Shorthair, Havana, Foreign White, Seychellois, Ocicat, Snowshoe, and Tonkinese.

Where To Get A Siamese?

If you are ready to start looking for a Siamese cat the best place to start is by browsing your local newspaper or talking with your veterinarian to local breeders in your area. You can also search for Siamese breeders on the Web and get contact information. Once you find a local breeder you want to visit their cattery and view the health of the kittens. Make sure to read the rules of their contract and judge if everything is fair and the breeder is reputable. You also want to get registered papers and find out if they offer a health guarantee for the kitten you are buying. Expect to pay a deposit at least and setup a date to take your new kitten home once they are litter trained and old enough to leave.

Cats are strange animals, they can seem unfriendly and quite annoying most of the time, so why is it that cats are in most peoples homes? They are pretty for one, and appeal to the eyes, I could also say that cuteness is defined by two kittens sleeping on top of each other, who can deny a look at that? They will develop a quite unique personality and fill your home with…. that homely feeling. How can we say no to a cat! when it zigzags between your ankles as you open a can of tuna! well I can’t that’s for sure! All this is well and good but still they can be a handful, I had one friend describe them as pointless! I was annoyed! and had to try and defend my opinion as if my own reputation was at risk. Dogs on the other hand seem to have the right mixture of qualities that take less hard work and patience to appreciate. Why can’t we have a dog cat hybrid? Now that would be a strange beast! This brings me to the title of the article. Siamese cats in my opinion are in a class of there own. They are beautiful, and have less of the irritating characteristics of your typical mongrel cat. Siamese cats were once considered to be sacred and worshiped as they are direct descendants of the sacred temple cat of Siam. It’s not hard to see why this legendary breed was worshiped as the Siamese posture and serene features demand respect.

The Siamese breed of cat can truly enrich a persons life. To bring a Siamese into your home will be the start of a beautiful relationship between you and the cat. Sometimes the line between pet and owner will slip as you find your life becoming entwined with your Siamese. I’m not saying you will regret your decision, however you do need to make an informed decision before buying one, because of the love and attention that you will have for him.

It`s like having a child around the house, always into things, occasionally mischievous but respectful when taught, you will find this reminds you of your Siamese, they are well known for their intelligence and can be taught tricks unlike your common cat,the Siamese will pick things up quite easily, and if the idea pleases him, he will set about with fresh ideas that he will see through to the end.

A dog can be a friend for life because of their loyalty and over indulgent need to please, this is how I see a Siamese cat as well. You will find they love to be involved with the family and seek special treats and often have you in fits of laughter.

To summarize I would recommend a cat to anyone who needs a pet to take care of and spoil and I would recommend a Siamese to anyone who needs… taking care of! Only for life though not for the short term!

Besides Persian and Himalayan kitten, Siamese kitten is also one of the most familiar cats in the USA. There are lots of breeders and pet stores that produce Siamese kittens for the sake of profit only without having any regard for the health and well being of the kitten. If bred in an unhealthy environment, Siamese kittens can have a multitude of problems inside. Nevertheless, they look adorable after all.

Clear Eyes

The predominant specific characteristic of the Siamese kittens is on the eyes. They have striking blue eyes that become one of the popular breed’s trademarks. If you find the Siamese kitten’s eyes seem having a problem in focusing or have much discharge, it means this cat may have problems later on.

More often than not, Siamese cats have the appearance of being near cross-eyed. This appearance of being sometimes cross-eyed is something that is common in the breed. So, the Siamese kittens that you pick should have look like this.

Smooth, Clean Coat

After considering the eyes, you then should ascertain the Siamese kittens that you choose has a smooth and clean coat. There are short haired and long haired varieties of the breed so the type of coat may differ from each other but the smoothness should be there as well as the cleanliness. Cleanliness is a thing that is moderately natural to a cat no matter its kind.

Nature

A healthy cat is usually inquisitive and curious and thus it’s important to make certain that your Siamese kitten show shows this behavior. Your Siamese kitten may shows as a shy cat that has some problems with socialization when introduced to other cats or other pets. It is quite normal however, so you do not have to worry about it.

It may amaze you, as it has amazed me, that there are many different “genetically tinkered” cat breeds today. Never would my grandfather, in his day, imagine that there will be so many different cat breeds because man decided to make them so. Today we have the hairless and non-shedding cat breeds as well as the better known Persian, Siamese, Calico bread, etc. But before we condemn the scientists for playing God, we should also realize that some of these new breeds of cats are actually stronger and healthier and do not carry the troublesome character traits of “traditional cats”.

At the present moment, we have so many cat breeds that we need a cat registrar to keep track of them. In North America, we can find breeds with long tail or long fur. Some of the most interesting breeds include the Allet Cat, the long furred Persian Cat, the Siamese Cat and even the wild cats. Some of these cats have very bad temperament while others are more subdued and loving. But all in all, cats tend to be cool towards people, unlike the friendly dog. So if you want to buy a cat, make it it suits your own temperament!

Here are some interesting historical snippets of cat breeds the world over:

i) One of the earliest pets in the world was a cat. In ancient Egypt, Pharoahs and even ordinary folk used cats for protection and companionship. Even in today’s high tech world, the cat symbol remains a popular choice. Examples are the Japanese Hello Kitty, Doreamon and of course, Garfield the fat cat.

ii) The Japanese Bobtail is already extinct. It existed in Jesus’s time but in the land of the rising sun, Japan. Little is known of this exotic breed except that it has a bobtail and lived over a thousand years ago.

iii) The notorious “Alley cat” simply refers to the many homeless cats of all kinds of breeds. They are not unique to America as alley cats can be found anywhere in the world – they basically lived in alleys. Many of these cats are homeless and uncared for because of overbreeding. In many countries, these poor cats are “put to sleep”, or culled, because they carry diseases and are a threat to public health.

iv) The Siamese cat, as the name suggest, came from Siam, the ancient name for Thailand. Siamese cats are beautiful furry creatures anyone would like to cuddle. Unlike Siamese twins, these cats don’t come joined together.

Is you want to own a cat, be sure that you know how to breed it and take care of it properly. A cat, or any other pet for that matter, is also a living being and should be cared for like a child. Treat your cat like your baby and it will return your affection like a baby

Siamese cats are a popular breed of domestic cat that make great pets because of their attractive appearance and their agreeable temperament.

Siamese hail from the South Eastern country of Thailand which was previously known as Siam. In ancient times they had a royal approval and could be seen residing in the palaces of the ruling monarchs. They were said to be responsible for protecting the palaces from evil spirits. and also to bring good fortune to their owners.

In was back in the late nineteenth century that the Siamese breed of cat made it’s first journey to the West. In 18884 they were given as a gift to a British General. Soon after that they began to be expected to America. Their popularity quickly took off and now Siamese are among the top 3 most popular breeds of short haired cat.

So what are the distinctive features of a Siamese? Because cats often breed outside of their pedigree, many find it hard to distinguish a true Siamese. However, in general you can notice on by a light colored body, with darker areas around the feet, legs, face or tail. Siamese have bright eyes, which are usually slanted, one of the big clues to identifying this breed.

Generally speaking, they are quite a robust breed, with a round head and a muscular physique, weighing between 6 – 20 pounds. They are one of the most playful breeds of cats, and this is one of the reasons their popularity is enduring.

Siamese cats love to play, make a noise and are generally more sociable than other breeds of cat.

Although they are quite independent, they can also be quite demanding at times. Unlike like a lot of other cat species, sometimes they will crave constant attention or be looking for you to entertain them in some way. They love to play and hate being lefty alone by themselves.

Thankfully, even thought they can be emotionally quite high maintenance, they don’t need a lot of looking after when it comes to grooming and cleanliness. Every once in a while you may give them a light bath and you should also brush them at least once a month, but apart from this they will need very little else in the way of grooming. Their short hair is kept very low maintenance to keep in good condition.

If you keep your cat in good health, with the right food and amount of exercise you can expect it to live a long life. A healthy Siamese will live to an average of 15 – 20 years. You will of course need to take him ti the vet for regular checkups but apart form this you can expect a long and rewarding life with your pet.

The Siamese cat is probably the oldest known breed there is. It was first exported in the early eighteen hundreds from Thailand. Known at that time as Siam, this is how the cat got its name.

A creature like no other, the Siamese will communicate with humans on a whole different level. Known for their distinct voice, they also speak with their body and communicate their affection for human companionship by being on your lap, in your bed, and just about any place that you are.

An English ambassador to Siam was given a gift of this exquisite feline. By the first part of the twentieth century, the Siamese had inhabited the American home. Seal points were the first arrival to be followed by the chocolate point and then the blue point. These make reference to the color markings of this cat. While their bodies are pretty much neutral in color form from creamy white to pale fawn and even bluish white, their extremities can vary greatly. The color of ears, face, feet, and tail give this alluring creature its name.

The eyes of the Siamese cat will enchant you with their deep blue almond eyes. An irresistible feature that cannot be ignored, the eyes are the prominence of this breed. The price you pay for this animal depends on its markings, type, and blood lines. These are not your typical household cat and many awards they have won over the years will attest to that fact.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so not everyone will fall in love with the well structured Siamese cat. Yet, if this is the one pet for you, expect many years with this animal. With a few essentials, your maintenance will insure your pet a long and healthy life.
